How much water should I drink?

b1I often get this question and 99% of the time, individuals are not drinking enough. I could go into this long rant on the benefits of water and how bad dehydration is for virtually every physiological process of the body, but I want to stick to the question.

So, how much water is enough? The recommendation given by Dr. Bob Marshall, PHD in Nutrition is 1/2 of your bodyweight in ounces + 10%.

For example, if you weigh 200lbs, then you would need 120 oz of water per day (that’s just shy of a gallon 128oz).

You may be thinproperty-youking, ‘That’s impossible! I’d be going to the bathroom every 2-3 hours.’ Actually, urinating every 2-3 hours is quite normal if you are getting enough water.

If you are only drinking 60 oz per day, then I would suggest increasing 8oz every 3 days to allow your body to adjust.

Also, try starting your day with the largest intake of water..32 oz or so. Don’t wait until you feel thirsty later on because you are already dehydrated at that point.

Best Clean, Pure Water Recommendations

Now that we’ve shared what good, clean, healthy alkaline water is, I’ll recap and then offer some practical solutions. Let’s not forget:

When discerning Water Quality ask, “Is the water from a pure, natural source?” and “Does the water have the properties of water from a stream?”

  • On average, 75% of Americans are dehydrated. For many people the body’s need for more water is often misunderstood for hunger pains.
  • More toxic chemicals are stored in fatty tissue from drinking treated tap water.
  • Tap water typically contains potentially dangerous levels of chloro- and fluoro-chemicals, lead, fecal bacteria, as well as pesticides and other impurities associated with cancer and illness.
  • Our bodies consists mainly of water (on average about 70%).
  • Drinking one glass of water when hungry has been shown to stop hunger pangs in 98% of the dieters surveyed.
  • A main cause of daytime fatigue is simply a lack of water.
  • Research shows that about 8-10 glasses of water a day may significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
  • 5 glasses of clean, pure, healthy water a day greatly decreases the risk of getting many degenerative diseases.
  • Our daily minimal water requirement is half our body weight in ounces.
  • A 2% drop in the amount of water we drink can cause mental confusion such as short-term memory loss and an inability to focus.

As for everything in life, God created everything in its perfect and most useful form for the human body. As we mentioned though, many of these originally pure sources have been polluted greatly by industrial waste/chemicals throughout the world. So, purification is necessary in many parts of the world and especially in the U.S. Most purification methods take water away from its most natural state in order to filter out the impurities. This is damaging to our bodies, often acidifying our blood and tissues. We have already discussed the fact that this acidification process fosters disease.

Therefore, two of the most important questions when discerning the quality of water are, “Is the water from a pure, natural source?” and “Does the water have the properties of water from a stream?” From our last blog on water, you may remember that the three areas that tell us about the overall quality of water then are purity (free of chemicals and toxic metals), alkalinity, and ionization.

In light of these important facts, here are our recommendations for clean, pure, healthy water solutions, listed from the best to bottled, based upon what we’ve found.

Good Water Solutions

1. Best Option: Jupiter Tap Water Filtration System:

This system is hooked up to your spigot or can be connected under the sink in your home as well, ensuring that all of your drinking water is effectively filtered and ionized at all times.

Ionizing Filtration System

2. Next Best Option: Ionizing Water Filtration Pitcher:

If a home filtration system is too expensive at this time, consider using an ionizing/filtration pitcher. You simply pour your tap water into the pitcher and enjoy great, ionized, healthy water every time you pour from it.

Ionizing Pitcher

3. Last Option: Good, Quality Bottled Water:

Voss Bottled Water

We still recommend choices 1 or 2 above, but if your budget will not allow for them, consider the best bottled water sources out there. We recommend water from fresh artesian sources like Evamor, Evian, Fiji, Voss, etc. Occasionally drinking ultra-purified water like Penta can be good for detoxification, but you should not drink purified water exclusively due to its acidity and the fact that it will strip minerals from your body.

The other issue to keep in mind is that bottled water typically comes in plastic, which runs the risk of polluting your water with bisphenol-A, a plastifier compound known to cause cancer and other metabolic issues. For this reason, make sure that you never leave bottled water in a heated setting such as a hot car, as this has been known to release some of these harmful plasticizers into the water. If you ever open a bottle of water and can smell or taste the plastic, it’s best NOT to drink it. For this reason, I prefer Voss, as it typically comes in glass bottles.

Bottle of Water

There are several factors that we deem important in determining quality of water. We feel that purity, alkalinity, and ionization (reduction potential) are the most important factors when determining the overall quality of a water.

Purification

Think of your body as a fish tank. Think of the importance of maintaining the integrity of the internal fluids of the human body that we ‘swim’ in daily.

“The most important thing you must learn is to hydrate the body with alkalizing water.”

With over 100,000 chemicals in use throughout our industrial world, there are many things that can pollute our waters. While they may help neutralize some harmful bacteria, our muncipal water treatment plants do not give us quality water. There is a wealth of information on how chemicals found in tap water cause great harm to the human body. For example, while fluoride may indeed help with tooth decay, it may cause a host of other problems and is even banned as an additive to water sources in some countries. Also, the same chlorine derivatives that are used to kill bacteria in the municipal city water, are also well-documented carcinogens. But is purification the best option?

There are many different methods of purification available such as charcoal, reverse osmosis, distillers, ultraviolet, backflush, PiWater, magenetic, vortex, chemical additives, and ionization. For the sake of drinking clean water, one should at least explore these different methods of purification. To have good discernment of quality, one must understand more about how they work and which ones will provide the most nourishing water for the human body. Purified water is almost always preferred over drinking tap water in the United States. For those on well-water, even the ground-water in most areas of the US are now found to have a large number of contaminates.

Alkalinity

Alkalinity is another big factor when it comes to health, and especially to water. The most important thing you must learn is to hydrate the body with alkalizing water. Like the earth on which we live, our bodies are 70% water. Food cravings are often the body’s cry for water. A thirst for water will begin as one begins to hydrate with water. Beginning in the 1930s scientists started contributing to a growing body of research that a major contributing factor to a vast majority of adverse health conditions is an over-acidity in the body. The typical American Diet is full of processed foods and acidic beverages such as energy drinks and soda.

“A major contributing factor to a vast majority of adverse health conditions is an over-acidity in the body.”

A diet high in acid foods such as meat, dairy grains, high sugar fruits and bread, causes acid wastes to build up in the body. When acid wastes enter our blood stream, the blood system will attempt to dispose of these wastes in liquid form through the lungs or the kidneys. If there are too many wastes to handle, they are deposited in various organ systems like the heart, pancreas, liver, colon, and other locations.

The breakdown of this disposal process of acid waste could also be called “the aging process”. To slow down and reverse this process, one must begin by removing this over-acidification of the blood and tissues by including liberal amounts of alkaline water in the diet. Alkaline water has a pH between 9 and 11, and will neutralize harmful stored acid wastes and gently remove them from the tissues.

Connecting the dots, the problem with many waters that are purified or distilled, is that they leave the water very acidic, causing the body to foster disease even though they are pure or clean of most toxins.

Check out the books Alkalize or Die by Dr. Theodore Baroody (which I just learned is a native of Sanford, NC), PH Miracle by Dr. Robert Young, and Reverse Aging, by Sang Whang for more details on the relationship between acidification and disease, and alkalinity and health.

Ionization

The final quality that warrants attention is ionization or reduction potential of water. Ionized water is like a powerful antioxidant for the cells of the human body. Ionized water is alkaline by its nature, and it is 6 times more hydrating than other water. In a few places in the world you can still enjoy, in nature, the health benefits of clean, safe, ionized water. Now, we have alkaline water ionizers that bring this lost source to your kitchen sink.

Ok, so now that you know what good, clean, healthy water is – what next? Well, we’ll tell you in our next blog article about some good solutions for finding the best water for your health. Stay tuned!
